Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI’s) have now been installed at the new escalators in the Launceston Target.
TGSI’s warn pedestrians with low or no vision of hazards and directional information to aid navigation of the urban environment. They are predominantly used to identify public access facilities such as intersection kerb ramps, pedestrian crossings, stairs, lifts, ramps and escalators.
During some recent training sessions, Jodi, one of our Orientation and Mobility Specialists (O&M) and her clients noticed that TGSI’s hadn’t been installed to accompany the new escalator build.
Jodi liaised with Target, the escalator build company and an access consultant, and we are thrilled to share that the TGSI’s have now been installed!
We’re always striving to make our communities inclusive for everyone, and now those who are blind or have low vision can feel an increased sense of safety and reassurance when using the escalators at Target, Launceston CBD. A fantastic result!
Thank you to Jodi, Access Solutions, Equality Building and Target for making this happen.
